Hi everyone,
As you may know, it’s the WI centenary this month. It started in a small hut in Wales on the 16th September 1915 and from those humble beginnings has grown into the largest women’s voluntary organisation in England and Wales.
So to celebrate a hundred years of amazing WI women, our September meeting is a fancy dress centenary party. Since it’s fancy dress, we’d like you to come dressed in any fashion from the last hundred years (if dressing up is not your thing, it’s fine to dress as a woman from now.) The meeting is on Monday 21st September in Hebden Bridge Town Hall from 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Guests are welcome for £3.
As this is a Jacob’s Join, please bring food to share – either sweet or savoury – and we will provide the alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink. There will also be silly games and a prize for the best costume.
Oh, and if you’re on social media, you may want to take part in the #iamwi event tomorrow Wednesday 16th – post a picture of yourself with the #iamwi hashtag on Twitter or Facebook or both (if it’s on Facebook, set your post to public so it can be shared). There are more details here.
OTHER SEPTEMBER ACTIVITIES
The Blues Brothers: Thursday 17h September
It’s our Blues Brothers charity film event in aid of WomenCentre this week. It’s at Hebden Bridge Picture House this Thursday 17th September from 7pm-10.30pm. Tickets cost £10 and the price includes entry to a raffle. Dress up is optional but encouraged – more details here.
This is an open event, so everyone is welcome. Please buy your tickets ahead of time, as we’ll only have limited availability on the door. Tickets are available at Ribbon Circus in Hebden Bridge or online here.
Even if you can’t come, please can you tell people about it – we need a last minute push to sell as many tickets as possible.
Walking group: Sunday 20th September
The walking group are heading up to Haworth this month. The plan is to walk to Haworth on the Haworth old road and catch the bus back. The walk takes approximately two and a half hours and there is one steep hill. Walking shoes are necessary.
Please meet at the beginning of Haworth old road at 10.30 am on Sunday 20th September. This event is free but please bring your bus fare!
Book group: Monday 28th September
Book group is on Monday 28th September at 7.30pm in Old Gate pub – please bring books to review and swap.
ADVANCE NOTICE
The Rag Market is on Saturday 24th October from 11am-4pm. We need volunteers for the day, so please sign up with Vanessa at the next meeting or on Facebook. If you’re planning to make jam or preserves this autumn, we need filled jars for our WI produce stall – we’re hoping to provide empty jars for you, more details to follow. We also need books, CD’s and anything else you’ve made (except baked goods because we can’t sell those in the Town Hall.)
Next month’s meeting is on 19th October and it’s our ever-popular Christmas crafts, followed by a bread-making demonstration on 16th November and then we’ll round of the year with our Christmas party on 21st December.
Right, that’s it for this month. I hope to see you dressed up in your fabulous vintage finery next Monday…
